The Government of Ghana and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have officially rolled out new state-of-the-art security screening equipment at Accra International Airport, marking a major upgrade to the passenger experience.
The new technology, which includes 3D-CT scanners, shoe analysers, body scanners, and an Automatic Tray Return System, has been installed at passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3. Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe confirmed that travellers will no longer be required to remove laptops, belts, or shoes during security checks. Liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) can also remain in cabin baggage, though the 100ml limit per container remains strictly enforced.
The upgrade, which was announced by President John Dramani Mahama during the launch of Ghana’s e-Visa system last year, is designed to significantly reduce wait times, ease congestion, and make the screening process faster, safer, and more comfortable. The transition will be carried out in phases alongside existing procedures to ensure a smooth rollout
